The National Enquirer is claiming Lucia’s birth has inspired Mel.

After a tough year struggling with the fallout from the collapse of his marriage, Mel Gibson has something to smile about. Proud dad Mel is telling friends that his new daughter with Oksana Grigorieva has given him a second chance at happiness.

Oksana gave birth three weeks early to a healthy baby girl on October 30 at a LA hospital.

Now pals say Mel is “thrilled to death with his second family. He’s behaving like a first-time dad – deliriously happy and telling anyone who will listen about the joyful news.”

Although the delivery went smoothly, there were concerns early on about Oksana’s pregnancy.

“Oksana remained quite thin and then the birth turned out to be about three weeks premature,” said the friend. “Mel asked his friends and family to pray that everything would go well for Oksana and the baby. Thankfully, it all went perfectly in the end, and Mel’s ecstatic.”

“He really sees the baby’s arrival as the beginning of a new life for him after a difficult few years.”

Mel Gibson became a father for the eighth time on Friday when his girlfriend, musician Oksana Grigorieva, gave birth to a baby girl, PEOPLE confirms.

“This will confirm that Oksana Grigorieva and Mel Gibson welcomed the arrival of a baby girl named Lucia on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles,” says Gibson’s rep, Alan Nierob, confirming earlier reports of the event. No further details were available.

“Everything is great! They couldn’t be happier,” a friend tells PEOPLE. “Everyone’s healthy and thrilled. He loooves it!”

Gibson, 53, was at Grigorieva’s side in Los Angeles until she and the baby went home from the hospital, then he flew to New York Sunday to resume shooting The Beaver, costarring Jodie Foster.

On Monday morning, an announcement of the birth was made on the set of the film in White Plains, N.Y. “Everyone sang ‘[For] He’s a Jolly Good Fellow,’ and he blushed,” a member of the film crew told PEOPLE.

Gibson has seven children (six sons and a daughter) with his ex-wife Robyn, while Oksana, has a son, Alexander, with her former boyfriend, actor Timothy Dalton.

In April, Gibson’s wife of 30 years, filed for divorce and later that month, he and Grigeorieva made their first public appearance together as a couple.

In 2007, Edward, who at one point considered Nick Nolte’s son Brawley one of his close friends, reportedly entered rehab.

Next came William, known in the family as Willie, 24, followed by Louis, 21, and then Milo, 19, a recent graduate of Malibu High.

The interests of the Gibson boys include skating, surfing and hunting. They regularly attend Lakers games when the team is in town, and they also tend to follow their father’s more conservative political leanings: on Facebook, Milo Gibson is a member of One Million Strong Against Hilary.

The lone minor among the Gibson clan is Thomas, who turned 10 the day after his mother filed for divorce. According to friends, the Gibsons have worked hard to keep the confusion and increased scrutiny of their impending divorce from being disruptive to their youngest son, for whom Robyn Gibson is seeking joint custody.

Actor/director Mel Gibson was spotted frolicking on the beach in Central America — with a woman who isn’t his wife!

Paparazzi snapped pictures of Gibson embracing the bikini-clad beauty on the beach in Costa Rica, where Mel owns a vacation home. Gibson’s longtime wife Robyn Moore and their seven children were nowhere in sight.

When asked for a comment on the snapshots, Mel’s reps told Extra that Gibson is on a family vacation.

The son of internationally acclaimed actor, Mel Gibson today donated $50,000 to the Kidney Foundation of Fiji on behalf of his father and mother, Robin.

Milo Gibson, while presenting the cheque to Dr Jioji Malani said that his parents love Fiji, and are fulfilling a promise made four years ago.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of Kidney Foundation, Benedette Rounds Ganilau said the donation comes in time when consumables for the first quarter of 2009 are being ordered and paid for in advance.

The Kidney Foundation of Fiji situated at the CWM Hospital which opened in March this year now has 7 dialysis machines.

The Kidney Foundation of Fiji yesterday received a generous gift of $50,000 from Hollywood celebrity actor Mel Gibson’s son, Milo Gibson.

Presenting the cheque to Doctor Jioji Malani from the Kidney Foundation, Mr Gibson (Milo) said his family chose to help the kidney foundation because they loved Fiji and its people.

He said his family wanted to help Fiji get back to its feet.

The Kidney Foundation, Mr Gibson said was a great organisation and his family was grateful to have been able to help out.

“I love Fiji and everyone here is nice,’ said Mr Gibson.

The presentation was made at the Kidney Foundation of Fiji’s Dialysis centre at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.

Foundation secretary Bernadette Rounds-Ganilau said she was approached some years ago by the Gibson family’s Fiji manager Martin Livingston who told her the family was interested in donating a dialysis machine to the foundation.

“On behalf of our Kidney Foundation and founder Dewan Maharaj and our board, we are honoured to be receiving this generous donation from young Milo on behalf of his parents,” said Ms Rounds Ganilau.

She said the Gibson donation came at a time when consumables for the first quarter of 2009 were being ordered and paid for in advance.

“We are immensely grateful for the donation and opportune timing,’ she said.

She said haemodialysis was an expensive life saving treatment but necessary for the growing number of patients with end-stage kidney disease in Fiji.

The Fiji Dialysis Centre at the CWM Hospital opened in March this year. It now has seven dialysing stations in operation.

Mel Gibson is helping Spears resuscitate her career, and word is he wants to cast the pop star in his next film, Edge of Darkness, which is due to shoot in Boston later this summer.

Britney is currently vacationing with Gibson and his wife, Robyn, at the Braveheart actor’s surf-side ranch in Costa Rica.

Based on a 1985 miniseries, “Edge of Darkness” follows a police investigator whose activist daughter is killed in mysterious circumstances. It’s being produced by Graham King and written by William Monahan, who last worked together on The Departed.

Britney Spears has accepted an invitation to join Mel Gibson and his family at their Costa Rican home, according to reports.

The pop star and her father Jamie are rumored to be heading to Central America with the 52-year-old Braveheart star and his wife Robyn.

A source tells America’s People magazine, “They’re just going away for a few days to relax.”

The Gibsons and Spears, who are former California neighbors, have reportedly become close since the pop star’s hospitalization in February (08).

A source says, “Mel and his wife Robyn clearly saw a woman in crisis and wanted to extend themselves in any way possible. There are no expectations, there is no agenda. It’s simply an act of human kindness – one neighbor reaching out to the other.”

The pop star sparked curiosity after she met Gibson for dinner over the weekend. Insiders say Gibson only wants to help Spears.

Mel Gibson and his family have befriended Britney Spears, thinking they can help her through her tough time, TMZ.com reported.

The two were at Romanov Restaurant and Lounge in Los Angeles Saturday night, where they reportedly dined together. Gibson, his wife Robin and their kids reached out to Spears during her darkest days and began seeing her, TMZ said.

The Gibsons feel like they know how tough it is to live in a fishbowl and they think they can help Spears, sources told TMZ. There have been private dinners in which Mel, Robin and the kids met up with Spears to give her support.

At Romanov’s Saturday night, Gibson and Spears did not walk in or out together, TMZ reported.

After pleading no contest to a misdemeanor DUI charge on Aug. 17, 2006, Gibson was given three years’ probation, ordered to pay $1,400 in fines and attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. After he was stopped, Gibson launched into an anti-Semitic rant, causing a scandal.

Spears’ father, James, was named one of two co-conservators of her estate after the singer was hospitalized twice in January. Conservatorships are granted for people deemed unable to take care of themselves or their affairs.

Before her hospitalization, Spears had shown increasingly erratic behavior. She shaved her head, was seen in public without underwear, ran over a celebrity photographer’s foot and attacked a vehicle with an umbrella.

Spears has since had very limited contact with her toddler sons who are under the sole physical and legal custody of her ex-husband Kevin Federline.
