Hollywood heavyweight Robert De Niro hit the 15th hole at the Gannon Golf Club in Lynn yesterday to shoot scenes for the Mel Gibson flick Edge of Darkness.
De Niro, who plays a CIA operative in the emotional thriller, spent the day trying to get out of a sand trap while the cameras rolled.
We hear that the director, Martin Campbell, of Casino Royale fame, was unable to fit the actor, the sand trap and the Boston skyline in his shot so the groundskeeping crew at Gannon spent the last week excavating the pit for the flick.
“They actually ended up liking the way it turned out, so they’re going to keep it,” said Someone Who Knows.
Gannon is open to the public today – but only holes 1 through 9: Bobby D. and the rest of the “Edge” crew have the back nine.
