Gallipoli Our Best Film

Posted on March 30, 2008 at 9:55 PM EST by BlessedBeauty

Peter Weir’s epic drama, Gallipoli, has been voted the best Australian-made movie by Herald Sun readers.

The film, starring Mel Gibson, topped Eric Bana’s Chopper and Muriel’s Wedding in the online poll.

Gallipoli, released in 1981, won eight Australian Film Institute awards, including best film, best director for Weir and best actor for Gibson.

Almost 1000 readers voted in the online poll. See the results here.

Gibson was a favorite among Herald Sun readers. His Mad Max 2 came in at number four.
