Obama Doesn’t Have What It Takes to ‘Fix’ America

Posted on January 29, 2010 at 11:37 PM EST by BlessedBeauty

Never one to shy away from voicing his opinion, actor Mel Gibson has declared that he doesn’t believe President Obama has the means necessary to “fix” the United States.

“[Obama] is a man with an impossible task on his hands,” Gibson told Pop Tarts at the Hollywood premiere of his latest drama thriller Edge of Darkness on Tuesday night. “He got left a mess and I wish him all the best but I don’t think he’s going to fix it in five minutes and probably not in his entire tenure.”

Gibson’s thoughts come as no surprise, as his new film explores the dark side of politics. He stars as homicide detective Thomas Craven, who is embroiled in an investigation into the murder of his activist daughter. In the process, Craven uncovers a corporate cover-up and government collusion that attracts an agent tasked with cleaning up the evidence.

“It picks the scab off the governmental, corporate paranoia – the under the table workings that happen,” Gibson explained. “I think we’ve lost our naiveté, I don’t think we have any pretension that what most of our leaders are doing is leading us to the slaughterhouse.”

And with all the headline news Gibson has made over the past few years with various trials and tribulations in his personal life, it is hard to believe it has been seven years since he actually took on a major film role, the last being Signs in 2002.

“I just wanted to come back and that was just the best piece of material that crossed my hands” he said.

And although the controversial actor has a reputation in the industry for being an on-set prankster, he got a taste of his own medicine this time around while working with fellow Australian, Bojana Novakovic, who played his daughter.

“I pranked him, I pretended that I was a seamstress on the first day and I went up to him as the seamstress until he realized who I was,” Novakovic said. “He was still very nice to me [as] the seamstress, but I wanted him to play a prank on me after that but he never did. I think it might be coming. He said ‘watch your back’ and it comes when you least expect it so I was watching my back the entire shoot.”

‘All Guys Are Dogs’: What Will Mel Gibson Say Next?

Posted on January 25, 2010 at 2:55 PM EST by BlessedBeauty

Mel Gibson admits he is protective of his daughters because he knows “all guys are dogs”.

The controversial Lethal Weapon star plays a man seeking revenge for the murder of his daughter in his comeback movie Edge of Darkness.

And he confessed he is very protective of his own daughters, married Hannah, 29, and three-month-old Lucia by his girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

He said: “Oh, you get scared. We all know what dogs all guys are because we’re guys.

“But we shouldn’t despair. The beautiful truth is all women are smarter than men.”

Does Grigorieva know all guys are dogs?

Just for fun, it’s time to weigh in. Do you agree? Click here to vote.

Winstone Defends Gibson Over Drunk Driving Shame

Posted on January 21, 2010 at 2:12 AM EST by BlessedBeauty

British actor Ray Winstone has defended Mel Gibson over his drink driving arrest in 2006, insisting it could have happened to anyone.

The Braveheart star was arrested after he was spotted leaving a Malibu, California bar and subsequently sentenced to three years probation on a misdemeanour driving under the influence (DUI) charge.

He also prompted outrage after it was revealed he made anti-Semitic remarks to the arresting officer.

Gibson subsequently issued two public apologies about his comments, but he’s still the brunt of Hollywood jokes – as Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais made clear during Sunday night’s ceremony.

The funnyman poked fun at the movie star’s past drinking problems, joking, “‘I like a drink as much as the next man… unless the next man is Mel Gibson.”

But now, Winstone, who stars alongside Gibson in new movie Edge Of Darkness, has spoken out in favour of the Lethal Weapon actor, calling for people to stop giving him “a hard time”.

He says, “Mel gets a hard time but you know what, it’s all complete bollo**s. He’s a proper geezer (great guy). Anyone can be drunk and get into a bit of bother with a copper who’s got the hump (upset), you know?”

Mel Gibson: I Have Been Humiliated, But I’m Tough…

Posted on January 21, 2010 at 1:53 AM EST by BlessedBeauty

He has become more famous for his turbulent personal life than his once-glittering movie career.

Dogged by controversy, Mel Gibson has battled through alcoholism, scandal and the collapse of his 28-year marriage.

So it was too much of an opportunity for Ricky Gervais to resist a cheeky dig as he hosted the Golden Globes at a star-studded ceremony in LA earlier this week.

“I like a drink as much as the next man”, quipped The Office star, live on American TV, …”unless the next man is Mel Gibson.”

The Mad Max hero took the joke in good spirits and laughed it off with ease. But then, he has good reason to smile these days.

Three months ago Mel became a father for the eighth time, after his 39-year-old Russian musician lover Oksana Grigorieva gave birth to a daughter, Lucia.

It is three decades since his eldest was born and, at the age of 54, he is changing dirty nappies and facing sleepless nights all over again. And he is loving every minute.

“It’s fantastic”, he gushes. “There’s no gift like the gift of a young life and shes so sweet.

“There are no possible words to describe it. It’s the same, but I’m different.

“I’m older and I probably look at it in a profounder way through the years and wisdom. But the beauty of having done it young and old is that you can look back on it all and still experience it.”

Dressed casually in a grey check sports jacket and jeans, the Hollywood star is chatting in a beachfront hotel suite in Santa Monica.

At times, he seems tense and on edge, but he explains it’s a lack of nicotine not sleep deprivation which is making him a little twitchy.

“You have to forgive me because it’s been seven days since I gave up smoking”, says Mel.

He talks at length, varying between flippancy and serious introspection, with liberal use of four-letter words and flamboyant hand gestures.

If he does not want to answer a question he brusquely states: “I’m not interested in that.”

Mel Gibson and Ray Winstone on Edge of Darkness

Posted on January 21, 2010 at 1:47 AM EST by BlessedBeauty

It’s been seven years since we’ve seen Mel Gibson on the big screen, but he’s back in Warner Bros.’ new political thriller Edge of Darkness, which also stars Ray Winstone. Gibson plays a Boston cop who stumbles across a government and corporate cover-up while searching for the truth about his daughter’s brutal murder. At first he believes he is the target of the crime until he begins to unravel the secrets his daughter was keeping. The film is based on a British TV drama which first aired in 1985 and to this day remains one of the most influential miniseries in British TV history.

Gibson and Winstone not only talked about their latest project, but other upcoming films as well like Mad Max: Fury Road, Gibson’s untitled Viking movie and Steven Soderbergh’s Cleo:

Q: Have you gotten the acting bug back and might you pop up in Mad Max 4?
Mel Gibson: I walked away from it after Signs because I just felt I was a bit stale. It wasn’t ringing my bells so I focused on directing and writing and producing and all that kind of stuff, and it was time to come back. Now, I got the acting bug back because I felt like all of a sudden maybe after all these years I might have something to offer again and it coincided with a very good piece of material. It was a compelling story with good elements attached and I dug it, and it gave me the chance to work with Martin and Ray and Graham and Bill Monahan. If it wasn’t this, it would’ve been something else but this was the best thing that I saw.

Q: Have you talked to George Miller about Mad Max?
Gibson: Oh yeah, I’ve talked to George. We’ve had a good chin wag about it. We talk all the time anyway, George and I, so I’m abreast of that. I know he’s been trying to do this for years, the fourth installment. At one point I was involved and it felt a bit… so now it’s probably gone through a lot of changes. I can’t wait to see it because everything he does I think is magic, I think is a touch of genius, more than a touch of genius about George. Probably most of any good trick I’ve ever learned, I’ve learned off that guy and Peter Weir.

Mel Gibson Talks Sobriety, Baby Lucia

Posted on January 18, 2010 at 6:30 PM EST by BlessedBeauty

“Sobriety’s cool,” he told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson over the weekend as he promoted his upcoming thriller, “Edge of Darkness,” opposite British actor Ray Winstone. “[I’ll] be coming up on four years soon. So that’s not so bad. Walking the line.”

Mel said he is doing “very good,” and in fact, has even recently stopped smoking.

“The first three days, you’re an axe murderer,” he told Shaun laughing. “Day four, well, you might take a bat to someone. Day five? You’re OK… It’s really tough.”

But while putting down the smokes wasn’t easy, it has come with a few benefits.

“I quit smoking and I lost five pounds,” Mel said.

And the actor is also enjoying oxygen a bit more, he told Shaun.

“You breathe. You breathe all the way out,” he said. “Few people actually breathe all the way out. Hardly anyone. Hardly anyone ever gets a fresh lung full of air, because people forget to breathe all the way out.”

Mel, whose new film opens on January 29, also opened up to Shaun about life with his new baby girl, Lucia, who was born in October.

”[She’s] beautiful, like an angel,” he said.

Mel said little Lucia takes after mom, Russian singer Oksana Grigorieva, in the looks department.

“She luckily looks more like her mother than me and is an angel and the mother, turns out she’s a wonderful mother,” he said.

But so far, there are no plans for Mel, who is currently in the process of divorce proceedings with wife Robyn Gibson, to wed Oksana.

“She’d make anyone a wonderful wife, but for the moment, she’s a mother,” he said after Shaun asked if marriage was on the couple’s mind.

Mel Gibson Interview: Talks Mad Max 4, Viking Movie with Leo

Posted on January 16, 2010 at 11:00 PM EST by BlessedBeauty

Earlier today I attended a press conference with Mel Gibson as he’s out promoting his new film Edge of Darkness (which I really liked). During the Q&A, he talked about his involvement in Mad Max 4 and he gave us some new details on his Viking movie.

Regarding Mad Max 4, Gibson said, “At one point I was involved and it fell to bits and then this and that…so now it’s probably gone through a lot of changes and I can’t wait to see it.” Does that mean he’s definitely not in it? Hard to say. I wouldn’t be surprised if he still does a cameo of some kind.

But the big news came when he was talking about his Viking movie. While we reported about a month ago that he was developing a Viking film with screenwriter William Monahan (The Departed) and it was going to star Leonardo DiCaprio, what we didn’t know is that he’s going for absolute realism! When we asked what language would be used in the film, Gibson told us:

“I think it’s going to be English – the English that would have been spoken back then – and Old Norse. Whatever the 9th century had to offer. I’m going to give you real.”

What was also interesting to learn is Gibson’s first idea for a film was a Viking movie. He told us:

“The very first idea I ever had about making a film…my first thought about ever being a filmmaker was when I was sixteen years old and I wanted to make a Viking movie. And I wanted to make it in old Norse, which I was studying at the time. It’s odd because at that age that’s a stupidly ridiculous idea cause how will I ever be a filmmaker. It’s just some kind of romantic pipe dream. But that was the first big, epic, wacky idea I ever had was to show Viking real.”

So anyone thinking this project isn’t important to Gibson…think again. This is clearly a passion project and he’s going to go Passion of the Christ in terms of realism and language. I cannot wait. Here’s exactly what he said on Mad Max 4 and the Viking movie.

Question: Have you talked to George Miller about Mad Max 4?

Mel Gibson: I’ve talked to George…yeah. We talk all the time anyway. I’m abreast of that. He’s been trying to do this for years – the 4th installment. At one point I was involved and it fell to bits and then this and that…so now it’s probably gone through a lot of changes and I can’t wait to see it cause everything he does is magic. There is a touch of genius about George. Probably any good trick I’ve learned I got from George and Peter Weir.

What are you doing next?

Gibson: I’m working with Graham on the Viking movie. The very first idea I ever had about making a film…my first thought about ever being a filmmaker was when I was sixteen years old and I wanted to make a Viking movie. And I wanted to make it in old Norse, which I was studying at the time. It’s odd because at that age that’s a stupidly ridiculous idea cause how will I ever be a filmmaker. It’s just some kind of romantic pipe dream. But that was the first big, epic, wacky idea I ever had was to show Viking real.

Does that mean the Viking movie will be in English or in old Norse?

Gibson: I think it’s going to be English – the English that would have been spoken back then – and Old Norse. Whatever the 9th century had to offer. I’m going to give you real.

Is that really important to you.

Gibson: I want a Viking to scare you. I don’t want a Viking to say, “I’m going to die with a sword in my hand.” I don’t want to hear that. It pulls the rug out from under you. I want to see somebody who I have never seen before speaking low guterl German who scares the living shit out of me coming up to my house. What is that like? What would that have been like?

How hard is that going to be to cast apart from Leo?

Gibson: He’ll be amazing. He’s a great actor.

Mel Gibson back from the Edge of Darkness

Posted on January 14, 2010 at 5:56 PM EST by BlessedBeauty

Nobody is without sin. You have to try to make amends if you can. You have to shut up and move on and not whine about it. And you have to deal with it like a man’

‘I’m to blame, if you’re inclined to judge’ Mel Gibson on the end of his 29-year marriage

‘And that’s it,’ Mel Gibson says. ‘Whatever fallout comes from it, be it fair or unfair, you’ve just got to accept your own culpability. The minute you start whining, it’s ridiculous.’

Gibson has always been one of Hollywood’s more testosterone-driven stars; unashamedly a man’s man, while simultaneously sensitive to and idolised by women. He’s also full of fascinating contradictions – he’s a devout Catholic capable of creating extremely violent films (Braveheart, Apocalypto); a multimillionaire who advocates that wealth should be evenly distributed; and a hugely acclaimed actor and director at the height of artistic success who has, in the past, been brought low by personal demons.

The subject of culpability has arisen because, as we meet, Tiger Woods’s affairs are dominating the news across the globe. Gibson has little patience for criticism of the personal failings of public figures.

‘I feel sorry for Tiger Woods,’ he says. ‘Why are we talking about this when we’re sending 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan? You’ve got this history-changing event going on and we’re talking about Tiger’s private life and golf injuries. He’s being used as a diversion and it just drives me crazy. You come out savaged. I just think, ‘Who cares?’

Gibson knows from personal experience how this feels. The last time he fell off the wagon, it landed him in spectacular trouble, with an arrest for drink-driving near his home in Malibu in July 2006, which spiraled into a full-blown PR disaster when it was reported he made anti-Semitic comments to the arresting officer (he said that ‘the Jews are responsible for all the wars’). He admits his remarks were – as he says – despicable.

Mel Gibson: ‘I Feel Sorry for Tiger Woods’

Posted on January 14, 2010 at 5:47 PM EST by BlessedBeauty

Mel Gibson, who endured one of the bigger Hollywood scandals of recent years, says the Tiger Woods affair has been blown way out of proportion – but that it wouldn’t do the golfer any good to whine about that now.

“I feel sorry for Tiger Woods,” the actor-filmmaker, 54, tells Britain’s Mail on Sunday’s Live magazine. “Why are we talking about this when we’re sending 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan? … He’s being used as a diversion, and it just drives me crazy.”

Having said that, Gibson, who stars in the upcoming film Edge of Darkness, believes Woods has little to gain from complaining about the coverage of his alleged affairs.

“Nobody is without sin,” he says. “You have to try to make amends if you can. You have to shut up and move on and not whine about it. And you have to deal with it like a man … You’ve just got to accept your own culpability.”

Gibson suffered a major PR crisis of his own in 2006, when he was pulled over on suspicion of DUI in California, and reportedly made anti-Semitic comments during his arrest. He later apologized, pleaded no contest and received three years’ probation.

In the new interview, Gibson says he’s been sober now for 3½ years. “It’s cool,” he says. “But I put some time together before that – one time it was eight years, one time it was five years. I have to be vigilant about these things or it will creep back in.”

Mel Gibson, Selegiline, and Poker

Posted on January 8, 2010 at 12:21 PM EST by BlessedBeauty

You could regard this as the height of superstition and if you thought celebrities didn’t have any, then you are in for some kind of surprise. Now some poker players who are superstitious as well would have probably tried this method to increase brain power. Mel Gibson is very superstitious and he believes that his mind would sharpen if he uses a very smelly ointment that is produced from cow’s brains. He feels that this will help him improve his gaming skills when playing poker with his friends.

This was revealed when Up in The Air author Walter Kim was invited to play a few card games by the movie legend along with his publicist Alan Nierob. This was a card showdown that was to be a part of the U.S magazines Men’s Journal, and even before the hands were dealt, Gibson insisted on using the smelly concoction all over his hands.

Gibson then told Kirn about the weird smelly substance that he used so generously over himself. The thing is called Selegiline and is said to help those who use by cleaning the neurotransmitters. However Neirob did mention that the substance did not help his client as well as his friend win. He even jokingly goes on to say that Gibson is a “loser” and his losses have been a great help especially in helping the publicists kids get through college.

Kirn through his later discoveries and finding found out that the substance Selegiline is used to treat Parkinson’s disease.
